U.S. Gas Prices Edge Higher for Second Week Amid Oil Market Shifts

National gas prices rose for the second consecutive week, reaching $3.14 per gallon, up 1.3 cents from a month ago but 32.8 cents lower than a year ago, according to U.S. EIA and GasBuddy data.

The increase follows a brief spike in oil prices to $70 per barrel before a decline, as OPEC+ announced plans to fully restore production to 2023 levels in September. While some states experienced double-digit swings due to price cycling, most saw only modest changes, with the Gulf Coast being the only region to record a drop.

Regional averages range from $2.73 in the Gulf Coast to $4.02 on the West Coast. Mississippi holds the lowest state average at $2.71, followed closely by Oklahoma ($2.73) and Texas ($2.76), while economic concerns and potential trade tensions could put downward pressure on prices in the weeks ahead.
