Federal EV Rebates Drive New Momentum in Canada’s ZEV Market

Canada’s revived zero-emission vehicle rebate program is helping reignite demand for electric vehicles, with nearly 25,000 incentives worth approximately $122 million claimed during the program’s first 2.5 months. The new Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) offers up to $5,000 for eligible battery-electric vehicles and up to $2,500 for plug-in hybrids, focusing on models priced below $50,000. Unlike the previous rebate program, the updated framework has shifted consumer demand toward more affordable models and manufacturers, with Toyota, Chevrolet, Kia, Ford, and Hyundai emerging as the leading beneficiaries.

For fleet operators evaluating electrification strategies, the program highlights growing opportunities to lower acquisition costs for eligible EVs and plug-in hybrids. Toyota’s bZ and Prius models, along with the Chevrolet Equinox EV, have been among the most popular vehicles receiving rebates. Quebec continues to lead the country in EV adoption thanks to additional provincial incentives, while Ontario and British Columbia remain strong markets. The renewed rebate program could help accelerate ZEV adoption among fleets seeking cost-effective options as vehicle availability and incentive support improve.
