Fleet Buyers Face Upcoming Order Deadlines for GM Medium-Duty LCF Trucks
Fleet operators planning to add GM medium-duty low cab forward (LCF) trucks should be aware of several upcoming order cutoffs:
- Orders for 2027 model-year 6500XD and 7500XD diesel LCF trucks are scheduled to close on June 15, followed by 2027 gas-powered 4500 and 5500 LCF models on July 15.
- Orders for 2027 4500HD/XD and 5500HD diesel LCF models will remain open until August 12.
Looking ahead, GM has confirmed there will be no production of diesel-powered 35/45/5500 LCF trucks for the 2028 model year. The 2028 gas-powered LCF lineup will be an all-new model, though production timing and pricing have not yet been announced. Fleets with near-term replacement needs may also benefit from existing port inventory of 6500XD and 7500XD trucks, which can be assigned and delivered in as little as a month.

Canadian Vehicle Sales Continue to Slow Across Most Provinces in April 2026
Canadian new light vehicle sales declined across most provinces in April 2026, highlighting continued softness in the market. Nova Scotia was the only province to post a year-over-year gain, with sales up 3.4%, while Newfoundland saw the largest decline at 12%. Quebec recorded the biggest volume drop, down nearly 2,000 units from April 2025, followed by Alberta and British Columbia. Despite the April slowdown, Quebec remains slightly ahead year-to-date, up 0.1%, while all other provinces are still trailing last year’s results.
Automakers Work to Balance Inventory as New Vehicle Market Stabilizes
The U.S. new-vehicle market remained mostly stable in April, but automakers are making strategic moves to manage inventory more carefully. Industry data showed available inventory fell slightly to 2.86 million vehicles, while days’ supply dropped to 78 days, down from nearly 95 days earlier this year. A major reason for the shift is that automakers are working quickly to clear out 2025 model-year vehicles before newer 2026 models fully take over. By the end of April, about 93 percent of inventory consisted of 2026 vehicles, showing that manufacturers are slowing production and keeping supply more in line with demand.
