Independent Repair Shops Lead on Price in Canada

Independent repair shops remain the top choice for Canadian vehicle owners looking for value, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants’ annual Light Vehicle Study. Among roughly 4,500 vehicle owners surveyed, 57.4% associated independent repair shops with the best prices, compared with 24.7% for Canadian Tire and 21.2% for general repair chains.

Dealerships continue to have an important role despite not being viewed as the lowest-cost option. Customers who choose dealerships most often cited brand expertise and specialized knowledge at 36.3%, followed by trust in the work and quality of service at 34.7%. For fleets, the results highlight the value of balancing maintenance cost with technician expertise, repair quality, vehicle complexity, and downtime when determining where vehicles should be serviced.
