Independent Repair Shops Lead on Price in Canada
Independent repair shops remain the top choice for Canadian vehicle owners looking for value, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants’ annual Light Vehicle Study. Among roughly 4,500 vehicle owners surveyed, 57.4% associated independent repair shops with the best prices, compared with 24.7% for Canadian Tire and 21.2% for general repair chains.
Dealerships continue to have an important role despite not being viewed as the lowest-cost option. Customers who choose dealerships most often cited brand expertise and specialized knowledge at 36.3%, followed by trust in the work and quality of service at 34.7%. For fleets, the results highlight the value of balancing maintenance cost with technician expertise, repair quality, vehicle complexity, and downtime when determining where vehicles should be serviced.
U.S. Auto Market Holds Steady as Economic Concerns Build
The U.S. new-vehicle market remained relatively stable in July, although signs of a slowing economy are becoming more noticeable. July’s SAAR finished at 16.3 million, down 1.5% from both June and a year ago. Sales totaled 1.364 million vehicles, down 1.8% year over year, while year-to-date sales are 2.3% lower. Fleet demand remains a relative bright spot, with total fleet sales up 4% year to date. Commercial fleet sales are leading the increase at 8%, followed by government at nearly 5% and rental at 1%.

As of August 10, 2026, the 2027 Toyota Tundra gas model is officially sold out. Fleets with planned Tundra requirements should review alternative powertrains, models, or available pipeline inventory to help meet upcoming vehicle needs.
