(CANADA) Stellantis Plans Expansion at Windsor Plant Amidst Brand Spin-Off Proposal
Stellantis plans to expand its Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario from producing one vehicle to potentially four by the end of 2026, according to the Windsor Star. Among the new models expected are a three-row SUV to replace the Dodge Durango and a two-row Chrysler crossover. The Windsor plant will also manufacture the all-new electric Dodge Charger and a future gas-powered version. Meanwhile, Stellantis is retooling its Brampton, Ontario plant for a new midsized Jeep. Amidst these developments, a proposal to spin off Chrysler and Dodge into a new entity, The New Chrysler/Dodge LLC, has been presented by the great-grandson of Walter P. Chrysler. Stellantis has acknowledged the interest but remains committed to its entire brand portfolio and is not considering splitting off any brands.

Gasoline prices have declined for the fifth consecutive week, with the national average dropping 3 cents to $3.28 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Prices are down 51 cents compared to the same time last year, driven by seasonal trends and the upcoming switch to cheaper winter gasoline. According to Patrick De Haan from GasBuddy, prices could fall below $3 if there are no major hurricanes in the Gulf or worsening conflicts in the Middle East. Diesel prices also fell but may rise as winter approaches. As of September 2, 2024, regional prices vary, with the Gulf Coast seeing the lowest at $2.84 per gallon and the West Coast the highest at $4.10. Mississippi currently has the cheapest gas in the country at $2.84 per gallon.

Regional prices have decreased across the board, with the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions seeing the largest weekly declines. Seven states now have gas prices below $3 per gallon, and more are expected to follow if the trend continues.
