Gasoline Prices Stabilize Nationwide Amid Potential Tariff Uncertainty
Gasoline prices have remained stable nationally at an average of $3.10 per gallon, up 8 cents year-over-year, according to EIA data. While most regions experienced minimal price changes, the Midwest saw a notable 4-cent decline. GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan attributes the stabilization to a downturn in oil prices, which are now $5 per barrel lower than weeks prior. However, potential U.S. tariffs on Canadian and Mexican crude imports, set to be decided by February 1, could impact prices due to possible retaliatory measures. De Haan anticipates relatively stable prices in the coming weeks before the typical seasonal rise. Regional gas prices vary, with the Gulf Coast maintaining the lowest average at $2.69 and the West Coast the highest at $3.88. Among states, Mississippi and Oklahoma lead with the cheapest gas at $2.68 and $2.70, respectively, while 27 states report averages below $2.99.
