Smarter, Faster, More Defensible: What the Latest Geotab Video Coaching Updates Mean for Fleets

From “What Happened?” to “Here’s the Proof”
One of the most impactful upcoming enhancements is Smart Speeding detection.
With GO Focus Plus dash cams now capable of recognizing posted speed limit signs, fleets will no longer have to rely on assumptions or manual verification. Each speeding event will include:
- A captured image of the speed limit sign
- Automatic geo-tagging
- A direct link to the recorded event
- A side-by-side view of driver behavior and posted limits
Why this matters
Speeding has always been one of the most common—and most difficult to coach—driver behaviors. Without clear, contextual proof, conversations can become subjective.
This update changes that dynamic entirely.
Instead of saying, “It looks like you may have been speeding,” managers can now say, “Here’s the posted limit, and here’s the event.”
That shift builds trust, removes ambiguity, and leads to more productive coaching conversations.

Less Admin, More Action
Beyond the added intelligence, this update also addresses a major operational pain point: time.
Traditionally, verifying a speeding event meant cross-referencing maps, checking speed zones, and piecing together context manually. That’s time your team isn’t spending on actual coaching or prevention.
By automating that process, Video Coaching now:
- Eliminates manual lookup and validation
- Speeds up incident review time
- Allows safety teams to prioritize high-risk behaviors faster
The bigger impact
Efficiency isn’t just a productivity win—it’s a safety multiplier. The faster you can validate and act on an event, the sooner you can prevent the next one.
Expanding Coverage of Risky Behavior
While Smart Speeding is a standout feature, it’s part of a broader shift: more comprehensive detection of high-risk driving events.
For fleets, this means fewer blind spots and a more complete understanding of driver behavior across the board.
And with better visibility comes better decision-making—whether that’s targeted coaching, policy updates, or proactive risk mitigation.

The Bottom Line: Turning Insight Into Impact
The latest updates to Geotab Video Coaching aren’t about adding more data—they’re about making data usable.
They help fleets:
- Move faster from detection to action
- Have more effective, evidence-based coaching conversations
- Build a culture of accountability and safety
- Reduce administrative burden on safety teams
NOTES
To use the features described in this document, you MUST have all of the following:
- Driver Identification & Assignment
- For coaching to work, the system must know who was driving when an event occurred. Vehicles must be assigned to drivers at the time of the trip. This can be achieved through:
- Smart Driver ID: The GO Focus Plus uses facial recognition to automatically identify the driver behind the wheel, eliminating the need for manual updates or physical keys. It operates in two modes: Suggestion Mode (suggests drivers based on biometrics) or Assignment Mode (automatically assigns drivers to events).
- Manual Assignment: Administrators verify and assign drivers to trips within MyGeotab.
- NFC Driver ID Keys: Drivers tap in when entering the vehicle.
- For coaching to work, the system must know who was driving when an event occurred. Vehicles must be assigned to drivers at the time of the trip. This can be achieved through:
- Company Group Configuration
- Your database must have Company Groups set up to organize both your Assets (vehicles) and Drivers.
- Viewing Events: To view event videos, the user must have access to the Company Group where the Asset belongs.
- Coaching Drivers: To coach an event (mark it as coachable), the user must have access to the Company Group where the Driver belongs.
- Note: If a Supervisor cannot see the Driver's Group, they will not be able to coach that driver, even if they can see the video.
- Security Clearance: View Recorded Video
- The "View Recorded Video" security clearance must be enabled for any user accessing video features, including Administrators, Supervisors, and Drivers. Without this specific clearance, the Video, Coaching, and Events pages will not be accessible.
- Your database must have Company Groups set up to organize both your Assets (vehicles) and Drivers.
For more information about security clearances, see this section of the MyGeotab Product Guide.
7 Must-Have Features in a Construction Fleet Management Solution

Strong Demand, Tight Timelines: Inside Ford’s Latest Truck & Transit Order Update
Ford’s latest MY2026 and MY2027 production and ordering updates reinforce a clear message for fleet operators: demand remains strong, order windows are tightening, and timing is becoming increasingly critical for securing build slots. With multiple model lines approaching final order deadlines and others already operating on extended scheduling timelines, fleets that rely on Ford vehicles for operational continuity should be actively reviewing their ordering strategy.
