Canadian Light Vehicle Sales Show Uneven Provincial Performance in 2025

Canadian provincial new light vehicle sales in 2025 showed wide variation, ranging from a 3.2% decline in Quebec to an 11.7% increase in Nova Scotia. Quebec’s decline was largely driven by a sharp pullback after the ZEV incentive–fueled surge at the end of 2024, with sales falling nearly 18% in December year over year. British Columbia, another ZEV-heavy market, also posted a slight annual decline of 0.6%.

All other provinces recorded gains, led by Nova Scotia, followed by Saskatchewan and Newfoundland. Despite overall annual growth, weakness across major markets—including Quebec, British Columbia, Ontario, and Alberta—late in the year raises concerns heading into 2026. December sales totaled 126,000 units, down 7.3%, while full-year 2025 sales reached 1.90 million units, a 2.0% increase over 2024.
