Canadian New Vehicle Sales Hold Steady in February

Canadian new vehicle sales totaled just under 122,000 units in February, a slight 0.2% decline from the same month in 2025. Despite economic uncertainty, winter weather, and ongoing trade concerns, the results remained relatively strong. The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) reached 2.00 million, slightly below January but stronger than levels seen in the second half of 2025.

February also brought major policy changes for electric vehicles. The federal government introduced a new EV incentive program, offering $5,000 for EVs priced under $50,000. At the same time, Canada’s ZEV mandates were repealed and replaced with new greenhouse gas emissions standards, though details on the targets remain limited.
