Canadian Used-Vehicle Exports to U.S. Remain Strong Despite Trade Tensions

Despite ongoing trade tensions and new U.S. tariffs introduced in 2025, Canadian used-vehicle exports to the United States remained strong throughout the year. According to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants (DAC), cross-border used-vehicle volumes were remarkably consistent with 2024, although significant differences emerged among individual manufacturers.

Vehicles from the 2023 model year represented the largest share of U.S. used-vehicle imports from Canada at 20.7%, followed by vehicles from the 2024 and 2022 model years. While overall export volumes remained stable, the impact varied considerably by brand, highlighting differences in cross-border demand.

For fleets, continued U.S. demand for Canadian used vehicles helps support remarketing values but also contributes to tighter domestic supply and higher used-vehicle prices. With trade uncertainty continuing, changes in tariffs or cross-border vehicle flows could influence future resale values and replacement economics for Canadian fleets.
