Canadian Wholesale Used-Vehicle Values Continue to Soften
Canadian wholesale used-vehicle values declined 0.18% last week, returning to a more typical rate of weekly depreciation. Car values were relatively stable, declining just 0.03%, while Truck and SUV values fell a more significant 0.30%. Full-Size Crossovers/SUVs recorded the largest decline at 1.21%, followed by Compact Vans at 0.89%. Sub-Compact Luxury Crossovers/SUVs were the strongest segment, increasing 0.76%.
Auction activity remained healthy, with monitored sale rates averaging 59.8%. Inventory has returned to regular-to-high levels, while demand remains strongest for clean, retail-ready vehicles. Average Canadian used-vehicle asking prices were approximately $38,500, based on roughly 165,000 dealer listings.
For fleets, the continued weakness in Truck and SUV values could create additional remarketing pressure, particularly for larger vehicles. However, strong auction participation and continued demand for high-quality inventory suggest well-maintained fleet units can still perform favorably. Vehicle condition, mileage, trim level, and disposal timing are becoming increasingly important as buyers become more selective.
