Kia Telluride and Tesla Model Y Earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+
The redesigned 2027 Kia Telluride and 2026–2027 Tesla Model Y have earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation under increasingly stringent safety requirements. The award requires strong performance across multiple crash tests, pedestrian protection, headlights, and vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention.
For the Telluride, the designation only applies to vehicles built after June 2026 because those units received improved headlights rated “Good” by IIHS. Earlier production received a “Marginal” headlight rating and does not qualify. The Model Y received “Good” ratings across several key testing categories.
For fleets, the results provide another consideration when evaluating vehicle safety and driver-assistance technology. The Telluride's production-date restriction is particularly important when comparing existing inventory, as not every 2027 model qualifies for the same IIHS designation.
Toyota Highlander BEV Delayed to 2028MY
Toyota has delayed the planned Highlander BEV again, moving the all-electric SUV from the 2027 model year to the 2028 model year. An opening date for fleet ordering has not yet been announced.
